Young girls who love horses will enjoy this book. The characters are well drawn, and the author has a lyrical style that I found very appealing. The horse Samphire reminds me of the Black Stallion -- strong and heroic, and clearly devoted to the main character Jodie; overdone, but in a way that the audience will embrace. The only negative for me was the editors' forced attempt to change details in the book to make it appear as if the story takes place in some ambiguous part of the US, instead of in England. Teens love to read books about kids they can identify with who live other countries! Why would the author allow her quite beautiful story to be jarringly disrupted by the use of sloppy search-and-replace to insert references to states and dollars and other random "American" terms? Anyway, I still recommend this book but I hope that the author will consider replacing this edition with her original UK version.

You will root for Jodie and Samphire all the way through the book. Sapphire Song is funny, sad, thoughtful, warm, and exciting. Hard to put down and well worth the read.
This is a wonderful story it was full of love, compassion, sorrow, and sacrifice. The love of this family and their sacrifice for each other was truly amazing. There were parts that made me cry one minute and rejoice the next. I really enjoyed reading this heart felt story.
I liked this book. It wasn't. The best I've read but it was okay. I think it was more for teens than for older people. I didn't realize this until I got into it.
A family that has gone through some tough times and still adjusting and growing. The love they share and how they stick together, touches the heart. Characters are strong and everyday normal. A good solid story, a keeper.
This is a good character driven story. It is a quick read, and I enjoyed it. For animal lovers, there is a tough scene to read, but it makes the story all the more touching. If you enjoy stories about families in crisis with a mix of animals, this might be the book for you.
My younger daughter has been into horses since she was three years old. She was into unicorns at first, until she realized that they are fictional. Now she competes in sidesaddle eventing. I hope to find a version of this book in paperback or hardback that I can send to her. She will love it.
Samphire Song tells the story of loss, healing, and the emotional growth of a young girl. Her love for Samphire and Samphire's love for her is poignant and beautiful to feel. It is told from her perspective and told well. I recommended it to my 13 year old granddaughter who likes animal stories and horse stories in particular.
